About the Item

Classicist chest of drawers Southern Germany Walnut and others late 18th century Dimensions: H x W x D: 88 x 121 x 58 cm Description: Three-tier piece of furniture standing on tapered round legs. The wooden rosettes on the corners emphasise the extravagant feet. The plinth section is made of solid walnut, with flat indentations emphasising the downward-projecting risalits. The front, sides and top are veneered in walnut. We see calm, diagonal grain patterns on the outside and fields of wildly grained and neatly bookmatching veneer on the inside. They are separated from each other by band inlays and fine thread inlays. On the corners of the furniture front, we see engraved and fire-shaded maple finials on a dark background. Dark wood frames with risalit-like contours emphasise the key plates. The finely embossed brass fittings blend harmoniously into the overall picture. On the back of the piece of furniture we can see the traces of old hand tools and the inscription A.Z. Neuburg. The chest of drawers is an outstanding example of German furniture from the end of the 18th century. The calm and harmonious overall impression of the chest of drawers was achieved through a clear structure, absolutely typical of the so-called Zopfstil. Condition: Restored condition suitable for everyday use. Signs of age and use have been deliberately preserved and conserved. The piece of furniture has an absolutely authentic patina.
