About the Item
An Italian carved walnut chest of drawers from the 18th century. This antique cassettiera (chest of drawers) from Italy features a rectangular-shaped top with rounded front corners, atop case which houses four graduated drawers, raised paneled sides, and beautifully swag-carved skirt. Each drawer front is adorn with a pair of cartouche style raised panels with decorative knob pulls, flanking a smaller raised panel with a rococo style escutcheon set at center. This case piece is raised on petite cabriole style feet. The walnut finish has a wonderful patina and antique condition true to its centuries old history. Note that the finish was refreshed at one point, and that one of the top pulls is broken. This 18th century Italian chest will make a very handsome addition to a bedroom, or perhaps find its place within a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.
