About the Item

An elegant and extremely decorated Italian 18th century Louis XV period patinated, Giltwood and Ormolu chest. This wonderful two door chest is raised by four square patinated legs displaying hand painted acanthus leaves. The arbalest front apron is painted with scrolling designs and is accented by a hand painted band along the bottom edge. The two front doors mimic drawers with their rectangular shape and sets of scrolled Ormolu handles. These artistic doors have exquisite paintings of winged cherubs playing amidst colorful flowers and surrounded by painted scrolled designs. The interior of both doors is painted with floral and scrolling designs. On the two front corners flanking the front doors are painted decorations of colorful floral designs. Both sides of the chest are decorated in a similar manner with paintings of winged cherubs and colorful flowers with scrolled painted edges. The top displays similar decorations as the rest of the chest with the playful winged cherubs and colorful floral designs surrounded by linked scrolled foliate movements. The top is finished with a Giltwood border which follows the lines of the chest.
