About the Item

A very handsome Italian 18th century Louis XVI period walnut, burl walnut, kingwood and charmwood commode, from the Lago Maggiore region. The commode is raised by four square tapered legs. Above the straight frieze are four drawers decorated with exotic wood marquetry. Each drawer retains the original patinated bronze pulls and keyhole escutcheon with ruban noué design. Behind each escutcheon are exquisite patterns of leaves in charmwood, kingwood and walnut. Each side displays a mottled framed panel, centered by a rectangular burl walnut inlay. The top exhibits the wonderful and unique walnut grain and is framed with a charmwood and kingwood trim with a tulipwood fillet at the border.
