About the Item

A handsome and high quality Italian early 18th century Baroque Period Walnut, ebonized Fruitwood and Brass commode. This wonderful four drawer commode from Northern Italy is raised on ebonized Fruitwood supports displaying pierced and scrolled front feet. Above the mottled straight frieze are the four drawers which are all decorated in the same manner with a Burl Walnut crossbar in between each drawer. Each drawer displays a central inlaid panel with an Brass key hole escutcheon and handle flanked by horizontal rectangular panels with ebonized Fruitwood scrolls. To each side of the four drawers are cut corners with front inlaid ebonized Fruitwood diamond shapes before the sides accented with mottled and scrolled panels. Above is the stunning Walnut top set within an ebonized Fruitwood border and following the shape of the commode. Wonderful rich and warm patination throughout.
