About the Item

Chest of drawers hand-made in Italy in the early 1800s using cherry and decorated with walnut inlay. The commode features two overlay drawers with ogee edges, both with beautiful, hand-made, dovetail joints and inlay decorations on the front. The top and sides are flat, with straight edges and decorated with the same thin, geometrical walnut inlay found on the drawer fronts, giving the piece a nice balance. The commode is relatively small in size and has beautiful straight lines, which are softened by the inlay and the curvature of the cabriole legs and the serpentine apron. The drawers work well, therefore, this commode can be used on a daily basis and be both a functional as well as decorative piece. Its small size make it a perfect piece for many spots, be it an office, living room or bedroom. Its color is somber and the grain of the cherry wood adds warm highlights that flow beautifully with the walnut inlay. This is a pretty unique piece because it does not follow the strict canons of typical Italian neoclassical commodes; it is still elegant and straight-lines but has a bit of its own personality.
