About the Item
A commode in transitional from rococo to neoclassical style. Most likely custom made to order early to mid 20th century..Presents well and has strong presence. Highly decorative. Heavy and very sturdy .
Decorated with carved in relief foliage as trim, garlands and festoons. Portrait medallions, cameos adorn the front and sides. The ground case with green, blue, turquoise and pink trim. The top is a well executed and complex faux green based marble with a shimmering gold glaze. Lighting affects tint to blue or tint to green .With two keys .
Wear, dirt and grime loss of paint throughout. Dents, dings, rubbing to the paint. Fading to pigments typical and to be expected. In sturdy condition and with key. Overall fine aged condition and presents a colorful Italian presence. Possibly of Venetian origin with the playful colors ,stamped Italy.
