Japanese Antique Black Medicine Chest 1800s-1860s / Tansu Wabisabi

This account consists of five companies, As for me, I specialize in Japanese antiques and select carefully selected items. With 20 years of experience as a buyer, I offer Japanese antiques from my unique perspective. This is a very old black medicine chest made in Japan. The furniture is from the Edo period (1800s-1860s). The material is made of paulownia wood and the handles are made of iron. Paulownia wood is a valuable resource that is difficult to obtain today. The drawers were used to store herbal medicines. They were found in an apothecary shop that has operated since the Edo period. The 50 drawer storage lined up in a row is an impressive sight. A notable point is its good condition. Normally, medicine chests are always missing handles and parts due to age-related deterioration and repeated use. In the case of this medicine chest, however, all handles and parts are present. It is truly a miracle. In order not to spoil the tasteful atmosphere of age, only the inside of the drawers were cleaned with water. All 50 drawers have been maintained to work smoothly. There are some insect bite marks from storing Chinese medicine, but please be assured that there are no actual insects. Please note that some wood chips may spill out due to vibration during transportation. This furniture evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is the beauty of modesty and modesty, the beauty of the unconventional, the opposite of vulgarity. This is a unique and very rare item. Weight 16 kg.
