This antique chest of drawers was crafted in the Meiji Era (1868–1912). Made of Japanese cedar and finished with urushi (Japanese lacquer), it has developed a beautifully weathered surface that reflects the quiet dignity of time. The natural wear and fading give it a rich character, embodying the wabi-sabi aesthetic—the appreciation of imperfection and transience. The structure is also distinctive: the side panels extend downward to form integrated legs, giving the piece both stability and a light, open feel. A particularly unique feature is the pair of handles on each side, which were originally designed for portability but now serve as a charming visual detail.
