About the Item
This is an antique Japanese drawer chest, crafted in the Meiji to Taishō period (1860s–1920s). It carries a quiet presence shaped by many decades of use. The piece is made from traditional Japanese sugi (cedar), and the round handles on the front are fashioned from iron. Its clean, unadorned lines embody the quintessential Japanese sense of “simplicity.”
The deep reddish-brown tone, enriched through age, is a beauty that cannot be reproduced with modern paints or finishes. The subtle wear and small scratches around the drawers developed naturally over time, quietly telling the story of how this piece has been carefully handled, repaired, and passed down through generations. Its character is the very texture that only time can create.
All drawers have been carefully maintained and now slide smoothly, ensuring full functionality. The interiors are also in excellent condition, making it perfectly suitable for everyday use. There is a small historical wormhole mark on the upper left of the back side, but there is no active insect issue, and the area has been fully treated, so you may use it with confidence.
Its compact and understated presence allows it to blend naturally into modern interiors. The size makes it ideal for various uses—such as a storage piece near the sofa, a bedside nightstand, or a versatile organizer for small items.
