About the Item

This is a Japanese made drawer storage. It was made between the Meiji and Taisho periods (1860s-1920s), and is a piece of furniture with a long history that still has a strong presence after many years. The outer frame is made of lightweight, moisture-resistant paulownia wood, and the drawer surfaces are made of beautifully grained zelkova wood. The combination of these different materials is both functional and beautiful. Iron is used for the handles, giving a rustic yet powerful impression. Originally, red lacquer was carefully applied, but after years of use, the lacquer has darkened and peeled off in places, creating a unique texture. The appearance is as if the passage of time itself has been carved into the lacquer, evoking the spirit of “wabi sabi,” which means that beauty resides in decadence. The drawers open and close smoothly, making it suitable for daily use, and it is both practical and appreciative. It has been cleaned, so you can use it with peace of mind. This is a quietly charming piece that embodies the good old Japanese way of life and sense of beauty.
