About the Item
An unusually deep
heavy Meiji period tansu chest constructed from patinated stained elm timber with forged iron hardware. Two small hidden drawers to the top right can be removed to reveal a further two secret compartments within. Original locking front brace included, which is functional but unfortunately without its key. Japanese, c. 1870.
