About the Item

An unusually large serpentine chest of drawers. Each of the five graduated drawers are outlined with a carved "braided" beading and mounted with the original ormolu handles. The edge of the top is carved with a ribbon-and-rose motif and the front corners of the case are carved with tri-cluster columns. Standing on bracket feet which are also well carved with a cabochon. The figured timber is of exceptional quality. A very similar example is found in the drawings of Mayhew and Ince.
