About the Item
This elegant walnut chest of drawers from southern Germany dates from around 1790 and belongs to the late 18th century, showing the clear transition from the Louis XVI to the early Empire period. The piece features a solid pine body veneered in beautifully grained walnut with fine ribbon marquetry and clean architectural proportions typical of the time. Resting on tapered legs, it has two spacious drawers fitted with brass ring pulls and original locks, both fully functional. The front and top are decorated with linear inlays emphasizing the symmetry and refined geometry of the design. With its clarity and restraint, this chest perfectly anticipates the minimalist elegance of early 19th-century furniture. The surface has been hand-polished with shellac, highlighting the natural depth and warm tone of the walnut veneer. A fine example of late 18th-century German craftsmanship.
