Louis Philippe Chest Of Drawers, Late 19th Century, In Burl Walnut

About the Item

French commode Louis Philippe late 19th century. The wood is loupe walnut. The walnut magnifying glass is flamed because it has many aesthetic designs. These drawings have complex patterns with high contrasts and entangled veins on a naturally dark background of varying intensities. This chest of drawers is equipped with five drawers, including a secret hidden in the plinth of the cabinet. The drawers are mounted in a dovetail ensuring perfect strength. The drawers can be opened daily and contain many objects sometimes heavy. They slide perfectly. The discrete entrances are not protruding from the surface. They are wooden and are called trefoil entrances. The key opens the four drawers. The secret drawer opens from below. The chest of drawers is perfectly stable. It rests on low feet that respect the shape of the furniture in front and are called "patin" and two straight feet in back. The top of the dresser is a grey marble Saint Anne moulded on the sides and the front. The molding is worked and called «pair of buttocks». The marble is richly veined and in perfect condition. The marble has undergone a restoration of usage at the marbrier. The back of the dresser is equipped with solid wood panels so very resistant. In the 19th century, all famous houses had a Louis Philippe dresser with simple and elegant lines. The reign of Louis-Philippe is the delight of the cabinetmakers. These value large smooth surfaces, worked and selected the veneer to obtain the most beautiful patterns. The dresser has its place in every room of your home and will be the most beautiful effect.
