Louis Philippe Style Speckled Mahogany Weekly Chest, Late 19th Century This very functional piece of furniture was very popular with the bourgeois women. It was of great convenience and already adapted to more cramped apartments. It was mainly intended to store the underwear of the week, one drawer a day. This piece of furniture is straight, narrow, consisting of eight drawers vertically aligned. All drawers are dovetailed ensuring perfect strength. They can be opened daily and contain many sometimes heavy objects. They slide perfectly. The opening is done with wood buttons, two per drawer. The entries called “fil entry” are brass. The key has been in place since the furniture was created and is in working order. The bottom and sides of the drawers are made of solid oak. It is made from quality materials and built using ancient techniques: tenons and mortises weld the pieces of wood together and strengthen the strength. The back of the cabinet has solid wood oak so very resistant. The top of the furniture is a mottled mahogany top. The base of the furniture rests on four very stable legs. The two rear feet are straight, the two front feet are very elegant so-called “patin” feet. The interior of the furniture has been cleaned so that the objects are stored in a very healthy and odorless environment. It is a piece of furniture of character. It is useful in a bedroom, living room, hallway or office to store various administrative documents. Functional, with the right proportions, the semainier will naturally find its place in our modern homes.
