Exquisite Louis XV Bombe Chest of Drawers, France (1750–1760)
This fine Louis XV chest of drawers is an exceptional example of mid-18th-century French craftsmanship. Created in France between 1750 and 1760, the piece features the elegant bombe silhouette. The beautifully curved sides and front that embody the refined artisanship of Louis XV design.
The commode comes with a kingwood and rosewood veneer, arranged in sophisticated marquetry patterns that highlight the natural warmth and tonal contrast of the wood. It retains its original gilt-bronze fittings, including decorative mounts and finely cast drawer handles, adding luxurious luster and authenticity. The richly colored marble top provides both durability and a striking visual contrast.
The surface has been professionally refinished with a traditional shellac hand-polish, an eco-friendly method that enhances the depth and glow of the wood veneer while preserving its historic integrity.

This gorgeous French Louis XV chest of drawers dates back to around 1770. It was made during the so called Transition period, the time between Louis XV and Louis XVI. It already shows the plain and stricter design of the Louis XVI period, but has still some playful marquetry decor details which draw from the more pompous Louis XV style. The three drawers commode stands on four cabriole legs with bronze sabots. Between the first and the second drawer is a decorated bronze band. This beautiful chest of drawers has its original wooden top with its veneer decor matching the decor of the front and sides.
The Transition commode has been expertly refinished in our workshop.
