About the Item

A superb Louis XV style bombé commode by François Linke, signed “F. Linke,” with mounts stamped “FL” and lockplates marked “CT LINKE SERRURERIE PARIS 1405.” The shaped top features fine cube parquetry above a mahogany and parquetry-inlaid case. Two sans-traverse drawers are adorned with a rococo cartouche and rare gilt-bronze figural handles of cherubs and foliage. The corners are mounted with beautifully cast espagnolettes leading to elegant cabriole legs ending in acanthus sabots. French, circa 1900, this piece showcases Linke’s exceptional craftsmanship at the height of the Belle Époque. Celebrated for blending historical French styles with imaginative design, Linke became the most important ébéniste of his era, revered internationally for his technical brilliance and luxurious creations.
