About the Item

An exceptional, highly architectural chest of drawers constructed of solid, untreated Russian pine, with each of the four drawer fronts fitted with a repeating series of semicircular elements, designed by acclaimed Italian post-war artist and designer Mario Ceroli (b. 1938) and produced by Poltronova. Ceroli first began working with wood during the 1950s and would become influenced by the sculptural work of Louise Nevelson, which is certainly evidenced here. Part of his Mobili nella Valle collection (a tribute to the so named 1927 Giorgio de Chirico painting), this organic design ingeniously juxtaposes an unassuming material with a dynamic, rhythmic form, resulting in a work that’s at once understated and visually arresting, making it a particularly ideal choice for a foyer or entryway. A truly standout and hard-to-source case piece that will seamlessly integrate into both minimalist/modern and more eclectic/expressive interiors. Branded to side rear corner, ‘Ceroli Poltronova’. 1970s. Available to view in our Brooklyn showroom; please message us for an appointment. * depth of drawer front = 2.5 inches

One-Off American Studio Surreal Console Table in Maple by Andrew J Willner, 1976
By Andrew Willner
Located in Brooklyn, NY
A one-off, fantastical table by American craftsman, Andrew J Willner, executed in rare, spalted wormy maple, its five individual sections sculpted by hand and constructed with pegged mortise and tenon joinery. A dramatic pair of legs that are an amalgam of human and avian forms supports a top surface riddled with worm holes and whose outline serves as reference to a bird's beak and plumage. Made as a gift for Willner's parents, the underside bears a carved inscription: "'Mortgage Table' Thanks mom and dad, Love Andy & Diana, AJW April 76". A quintessential example of 1970s fantasy studio furniture. Well-preserved, in all original condition. Available to view in our showroom, please message us for an appointment. Literature: Meilach, D.
