About the Item
This mid nineteenth century French Louis XVI style black painted ash commode or chest features a beveled white marble top with grey veining. The rounded front corners are detailed with fluting and striated bronze plaques. Each panel is surrounded by a bronze border, and its three drawers of dovetail construction are fitted with bronze squared drop handle drawer pulls. The cabinet rests on tapered fluted legs fitted with bronze sabots. A striking piece in excellent condition. Includes one key with quatrefoil barrel and functioning locks, circa 1860.
