About the Item

Refined chest of drawers designed by Ennio Fazioli for MIM Roma in the 1960s, a testament to the sober and functional language that defined the renowned Italian manufacturer during the years of the economic boom. The piece is crafted in high-quality rosewood, with deep and warm grain patterns that enhance its timeless elegance-rosewood is even present inside the drawers, highlighting the exceptional quality of this furniture. Its linear and rigorous design is enriched with nickel-plated steel details, such as the minimal circular handles and the original locks with key, which emphasize the rationalist and modern spirit of the project. The chest of drawers consists of ten spacious drawers arranged in two symmetrical columns, ensuring both functionality and generous storage capacity. The structure is raised on a solid geometric base of ebony-lacquered wood, visually lightening the volume of the cabinet while reinforcing its architectural presence. An internal MIM Roma label confirms the authenticity of the piece. This chest of drawers is an exemplary piece of MIM's production, a company that introduced in Italy a new concept of furniture for both executive and domestic spaces, combining design, artisanal quality, and functional research. A versatile and iconic furnishing element, perfect for integrating into modern interiors or creating a striking contrast in more classical environments. Excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age consistent with use, as shown in the photographs. MIM Roma-an acronym for Mobili Italiani Moderni-was founded in the Italian capital in 1959 during the years of the economic boom, immediately distinguishing itself as one of the most innovative players in the field of contemporary furniture. From the outset, the company aimed to merge modern design, artisanal quality, and advanced industrial production, introducing in Italy a new concept of furnishings intended for both domestic and executive spaces. MIM's style was defined by a sober and rationalist language, with clean lines, rigorous volumes, and functional details, always executed with fine materials such as rosewood, mahogany, teak, nickel-plated steel, and brass. Particular attention was given to modularity and storage capacity, ensuring practical solutions without sacrificing elegance. Over the years, the company collaborated with prominent designers including Ennio Fazioli, Ico Parisi, Luigi Pellegrin, and in some projects, Gio Ponti, thus consolidating a strong and recognizable identity. In the 1960s and 1970s MIM became a reference point for modern Italian furniture, competing with brands such as Olivetti Synthesis and Tecno, and today is highly sought after on the international vintage market. Its creations are considered true icons of postwar design, valued for their balance of functional rigor, aesthetic refinement, and outstanding construction quality.
