About the Item

Masterfully crafted and preserved vintage 1970s bachelors chests by John Stuart Inc.. We were lucky enough to purchase these pieces from a time capsule estate outfitted with premium furnishings. These hickory wood cabinets have been delicately restored by our in-house cabinet shop. Both tops were refinished. The dressers offer ample storage considering their proportions. Each cabinet has three, deep drawers with circular chrome pulls, outlined in chrome trim. The fine finishes make them stand out in a crowd. Hickory is not commonly seen on American modern furniture. The gorgeous honey colored, richly modeled grain is a real showstopper. John Stuart Inc., presents a sculptural harmony of American mid-century modern—melding richly modeled honey-hued hickory with sleek chrome trim. Each chest features three generous, deep drawers trimmed in chrome and adorned with circular chrome pulls, creating a balanced interplay between warmth and industrial precision. Expertly restored by a master cabinet shop, both tops have been meticulously refinished and the cases—inside and out—have been refreshed to preserve the natural grain’s glowing intensity while honoring subtle, authentic patina. About John Stuart: John Stuart joined the John Widdicomb Company as Director and Sales Manager in 1929. He later became General Manager and Vice President and in 1943 he was named President of John Widdicomb. Shortly after John Stuart, Inc. was formed. It appears it had been a separate company that ran the designer showroom in New York and later in Philadelphia, Chicago and Denmark. John Stuart was responsible for bringing some of the era’s finest Danish Modern furniture to the American market. Finn Juhl, Ole Wanscher, Peter Hvidt, Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, and Edvard Kindt-Larsen are just a few of the legendary Danish designers who worked with John Stuart. Count Sigvard Bernadotte, son of the Swedish King Gustav Adolf, also designed for John Stuart.
