Late 19th Century Venetian Polychromed Chest/Commode with Marbleized Cartouche Top Measurements: Overall: 31.5" W × 15.5" D × 32" H Fitted with three center drawers, each approx. 17" W × 5" H A charming late 19th-century Venetian polychromed chest of drawers, richly decorated in the Rococo revival taste. The serpentine-fronted commode is topped with a faux-marble painted surface in warm terracotta tones, bordered with a gilt cartouche outline. The bombe-form case is painted in soft sage green with reserves of ochre and gilt scrollwork enclosing floral bouquets of roses, tulips, and garden blooms rendered in delicate polychromy. The three graduated drawers are fitted with cast brass rococo handles, their sinuous foliate forms complementing the painted ornament. The chest is raised on cabriole legs with gilt accents and painted floral sprays at the knees, terminating in scrolled feet.
