Classic bachelor chest with the pull out slide at the top above the drawers
Each chest is of rectangular form, constructed in warm honey-toned wood (likely walnut or mahogany veneer), with a moulded top over a straight, stepped cornice
Below are four graduated long drawers, all retaining their original brass swan-neck handles with circular backplates, arranged symmetrically and giving the pair a pleasing sense of balance and uniformity
A bachelor’s chest is a compact chest of drawers, traditionally designed for a gentleman’s bedroom, offering practical storage without occupying excessive floor space
Typically fitted with three or four drawers and restrained Georgian-style detailing, it reflects the refined, utilitarian furniture of the 18th and early 19th centuries
