About the Item
An exquisite French Neoclassical period carved and painted wood commode, with original marble top, from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features the original marble top with rounded and projected cove-edges at both front corners, atop a Neoclassical case which houses three small sized drawers set horizontally along the top, with two full-sized drawers below (for a total of five drawers). The case is flanked by rounded and flute-carved side posts which are adorn with brass wrapped banding at their tops. The recessed-panel drawers are outlined with brass trim and fitted with brass rectangular bail-pull brass handles and decorative brass escutcheons. The chest is raised nicely upon four conical feet with bulbous tops trimmed in brass, and terminating into brass peg feet. The custom dark gray color (with wood showing through in various areas) makes the brass hardware and trim really pop! Please note, there is a small dent on the right side of the marble top--feel free to contact us for more information. This handsome French period chest-of-drawers, with its original marble top and brass trim, would work really well in a bedroom as a dresser or perhaps in a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within.

19th Century Neoclassical French Marble-Top Commode W/Exquisite Brass Accents

A French Neoclassical commode, with marble top and exquisite brass accents, from the 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped gray marble top, over case which houses four drawers (upper drawer is disguised within the top frieze), flanked within a pair of rounded column style front side posts, a straight skirt, and presented upon rounded front feet and block style feet at rear. Beautiful brass accents adorn the chest all down its front facade; from the foliate embellishments across the top and again at the bottom of the legs, the nicely decorated knob pulls and escutcheons on the drawer fronts, and finally the wrapped banding on the top and bottom of the columns. The marble is a medium gray with lighter and darker veining, which is a lovely contrast against the gorgeous fruitwood.
