About the Item
This is a large and impressive chest of drawers with a number of interesting features. The top has a thumbnail groove around its edge and, trimmed with a bold ogee molding that protrudes a little at the front corners, creates a substantial crown. The four overlay, hand-cut dovetailed drawers, are more or less equal in depth, with the top drawer standing slightly proud of the lower three. Here, the front corners of the breakfront case flank the drawer with applied fluting capped with a hand-carved hardwood acanthus leaf corbel. The three lower drawers have a split column with an elongated pyramid base, ending in a breakfront base molding. This chest has a lovely warm color and is almost devoid of knots, having only a few figures in the otherwise clear boards.
