About the Item
Exceptional and rare chest of drawers from the prestigious “Marango” collection, designed by Alberto Smania for Studio Smania Interni in the late 1960s.
This piece embodies the finest craftsmanship of Italian design from that era. It is fully clad in dark walnut burl veneer, with elegant hand-woven leather corners, brass trim, and Italian cane detailing — signature features of the Marango line, known for its bold yet refined aesthetic.
It features four drawers and two larger compartments, all with original solid brass handles. The back is also fully finished, making the piece ideal for freestanding placement in the center of a room.
A truly stunning object, it reflects the luxurious artisanal spirit that defined Smania’s early collections.
Founded in 1967, Smania quickly became a reference point in high-end Italian furniture. The company is known for its fusion of traditional woodworking and modern aesthetics, and has always prioritized the finest materials and craftsmanship — as seen in its use of premium woods, leather, brass, and cane.
Designer Alberto Smania created the Marango collection as a celebration of Italian artisanal excellence, merging bold geometric forms with luxurious finishes. Today, these early works are considered highly collectible for their rich detailing, distinctive character, and uncompromising quality.
