About the Item

This Rococo style two drawer chest dates to the 19th century and was handcrafted in Italy. The piece is constructed using linden and oak wood, materials traditionally appreciated for their balance of strength and workability in fine furniture making. The craftsmanship reflects careful attention to structure as well as surface decoration. The chest is finished in a green polychrome surface, enriched with gold leaf accents along the edges that highlight the contours and decorative vocabulary of the Rococo style. These gilded details add luminosity and emphasize the elegant, ornamental character associated with Rococo inspired furniture. The drawers are fitted with bronze handles, introducing a refined metallic contrast that complements the painted finish. The top is made of rosso sardo marble, providing both durability and a striking visual accent through its rich color and natural veining. This marble surface enhances the overall presence of the piece while reinforcing its decorative and functional value. Designed as both a storage element and a decorative furnishing, this chest embodies the expressive richness and craftsmanship of 19th century Italian Rococo revival furniture. Its combination of materials, color, and ornament makes it well suited for classical interiors as well as curated eclectic spaces.

18th Century, Italian Policrome Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers

18th century, Italian Policrome Lacquered Wood Chest of Drawers This small and elegant chest of drawers was made in Genoa, northern Italy, around the middle of the eighteenth century. This model of dresser is inspired by the models that spread in France in the Louis XV period and to which all the cabinet makers were immediately inspired. It consists of four drawers, of which two smaller upper. It has a wooden structure entirely lacquered in light ocre decorated with floral and foliate decorations and compositions of still life of fruit in shades of red. The handles and mouthpieces of the locks are in finely chiseled burnished bronze, typical of the Louis XV era. The molded top is in Rosso Francia marble, a marble from abroad that at the time was very precious and expensive. The dresser has the front and the sides moved by the move line, legs thin and slightly curved. The front legs are embellished with burnished bronze chiseled tips shaped like acanthus leaf. This piece of furniture is quite rare because of its small size that make it easy to fit into any environment. Very decorative due to its sinuous lines and its fine decoration, it is suitable both next to antique furniture...
