About the Item
A finely proportioned small Louis XVI chest of drawers crafted in walnut and walnut veneer, dating to the late 18th century. The façade opens with three drawers fitted with drop handles, each drawer framed by clean, architectural moldings characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The chest is topped with a thick Saint Anne marble slab, finely grooved at the edge, with the marble carefully shaped to follow the rounded movement of the front uprights.
The front uprights are rounded and fluted, lending vertical rhythm and neoclassical clarity, while the sides are constructed with two recessed panels. The piece rests on turned spinning-top feet at the front and square, sheathed feet at the rear, a practical and period-consistent solution.
The chest has been entirely refinished and patinated, presenting in very good overall condition while preserving its late 18th-century character. Please note: no key is present, and the drawer handles are later replacements. Compact in scale, this chest is well suited for a bedroom, hallway, or refined interior where smaller proportions are desired.
