About the Item

A highly decorative George I Period japanned chest of drawers, showing an overhanging top over four tiers of short full width drawers with stylistically correct albeit later hardware, raised overall atop bracket supports. Originally constructed decorated with gilt chinoiserie motifs on black lacquer overtop a red bole surface, the black lacquer now mostly abraded leaving behind a striking red black mottled appearance with faint traces of original chinoiserie decoration. This wonderful highly decorative example of early Georgian case furniture would highly compliment any modern, classical or rustic setting.
