This exceptional 19th century French Louis XVI style commode, produced by Lexcellent of Paris, is a refined and scholarly homage to an original 18th century model by the celebrated royal ébéniste Jean-Henri Riesener, cabinetmaker to King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette. Executed during the height of the French Neoclassical Revival, the piece reflects the enduring admiration for the elegance and precision of ancien régime furniture among 19th century Parisian patrons.
Lexcellent was a respected Parisian marchand-fabricant and furniture maker, known for producing high-quality revival furniture inspired by the greatest masters of the 18th century. Operating in Paris—the epicenter of European luxury decorative arts—Lexcellent specialized in works that combined historical accuracy with exceptional craftsmanship, often collaborating with skilled bronziers and marqueteurs to achieve a level of finish comparable to the finest models of the Louis XVI period.
The commode is surmounted by a finely polished white marble top, providing both visual refinement and functional durability. The façade is enriched with superb marquetry inlay, composed of carefully selected woods arranged in elegant geometric and classical motifs, directly referencing Riesener’s celebrated designs.
