About the Item

Rare Victorian Apothecary Military Campaign four drawer brass bound chest finished with tooled black leather A Beautiful handcrafted Apothecary Chest. Each drawer has been indented and hand painted with its own medicine title for easy access. Apothecary chests with many small drawers to contain medicinal herbs. The chests/boxes were often needed to be taken on military campaigns. The Chest is in its original condition with fading to the names of the medicines but some are still discernible. Uses: In past centuries, apothecary cabinets were used by pharmacists or physicians. The many drawers held tools, such as a mortar and pestle, spoons and scales as well as different materials for medicines. Such cabinets fell out of use when mass-produced pills were created and the need for pharmacists to mix medicines declined. These cabinets can be very attractive and suitable as furniture in your home, and can be both decorative and functional. There are several rooms and uses that they are particularly suited for, though you can potentially use a many-drawered apothecary cabinet in any room.
