About the Item

This colorful antique encoignure was created in Italy circa 1780. The triangular corner cabinet, which may also hang on a wall, features two bowed front doors hand-painted with a dramatic biblical scene depicting the presentation of Saint John the Baptist’s head to Salome before King Herod, inspired by Matthew 14. The Renaissance-style composition includes richly dressed figures, architectural drapery, and expressive faces rendered in vibrant tones of red, blue, and gold. Inside, the cabinet opens to reveal four interior shelves for convenient storage. The unique piece retains its original paint and iron hardware, showing a wonderfully aged surface and character consistent with its period. Both sculptural and functional, this devotional armadio d’angolo would make an exceptional focal point in a study, chapel, or collector’s display. Measures: 23.75" W x 16" D x 36.5" H.
