About the Item

Grand Antique Italian Neoclassical ~ Baroque Painted Console ~ Buffet is an amazing combination of classical elegance inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, melded with the curvaceous embellished scrolled forms of the Baroque, executed by master Italian craftsmen! Utilizing indigenous walnut and sycamore, the casework was created on a grand scale, just shy of ten feet in width, but with boldly curved concave sides that are as richly embellished as the cabinet across the front, but serve as stylistic enhancement only. The cabinet consists of four doors set on a step-front facade, which open to reveal capacious storage. Ample use of the laurel wreath form on a straight, bordering design has a twist, with the leaves carved to depict acanthus rather than laurel, all enhanced with patinaed gold highlighting. The same motif appears on the drawer tier above arranged horizontally, punctuated with rosettes. Finely detailed cast brass pulls and key guards add a nice touch, all enriching the patinaed painted finish. Support is provided by multiple legs in the cabriole form with subtle carved accents. The top has been made more luxurious with the addition of inset rouge marble for true carefree opulence. Designed for a grand space, this magnificent piece will command everyone's attention. Circa mid-1900s Measures 40.5H x 118W x 24D Available for pickup in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
