About the Item
A stunning late 18th century Italian Baroque style credenza scantonata, handcrafted of rich walnut by skilled artisans in Siena, a historic city in the Tuscany region renowned for its fine woodwork and artistic legacy, circa 1790s. Siena has long been celebrated for producing elegant, well-proportioned furniture distinguished by refined detailing and masterful joinery, deeply influenced by the city's medieval architecture and Renaissance grandeur. This exceptional credenza is a beautiful example of that tradition.
Featuring distinctive canted sides (scantonata), the piece has a refined architectural silhouette. Its shaped, molded top rests above two angled drawer fronts and three center drawers, providing both visual interest and ample storage. The lower cabinet showcases three central raised panel doors flanked by angled side doors, each opening to reveal interior shelving ideal for organizing linens, dinnerware, or other household essentials. The door panels are a standout feature. Each one is embellished with deeply molded geometric frames composed of stepped and mitered moldings, creating a bold, architectural three-dimensional effect that exemplifies Baroque styling. Framed by elegant pilasters and adorned with understated circular brass pulls, the credenza is raised on carved bracket feet and boasts a warm walnut patina that highlights the natural grain and centuries of age and use.
A true testament to Sienese craftsmanship and timeless Italian design, this antique credenza scantonata offers both functionality and beauty. Whether placed in a dining room, living space, or entryway, it brings with it centuries of history, artistry, and sophistication — a striking statement piece that harmonizes beautifully with both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Early 19th Century French Louis XVI Style Two Drawer Walnut Commode Sauteuse
Located in Birmingham, AL
An early 19th century French Louis XVI style two-drawer commode sauteuse handcrafted of walnut near Paris, circa early 1800s. Having an inset rectangular plank top over two full size drawers with raised carved center panels, this beautifully patinated French chest of drawers, also referred to as a "jumping commode" because of its long legs and two large drawers, is adorned with the original bronze drop bail handles and ribbon escutcheons. Carved apron raised on tapered, fluted legs. Elegant yet unpretentious, this neoclassical French commode is a wonderful addition to both contemporary and traditional interiors, and the narrow depth makes it perfect for a foyer, hallway, bedroom or living room.
