About the Item

A masterwork of mid-century Brazilian design, this rare and architecturally striking credenza was created by Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner for Forma in the early 1950s. Entirely handcrafted from richly figured Brazilian rosewood (Jacaranda), the piece exemplifies the sophistication and craftsmanship that define Brazil’s golden era of design. The credenza features dramatically book-matched rosewood grain across its façade, with five carved drawers and sliding doors that reveal adjustable shelving inside. Signature sculptural legs—a hallmark of Eisler and Hauner’s collaborative works—anchor the cabinet with graceful tension, while hand-cut dovetail joinery and integrated pulls reflect meticulous construction and modernist restraint. Recently cleaned and polished by our team, the piece retains a stunning original patina, showing only minimal signs of wear and exceptional care over time. Its presence is both refined and commanding, making it suitable as a showpiece in sophisticated interiors. This piece sits alongside the most collectible works of Brazilian modernism by contemporaries such as Joaquim Tenreiro, José Zanine Caldas, Sergio Rodrigues, and Jorge Zalszupin. Rarely seen in such preserved condition with confirmed provenance, it represents a museum-worthy acquisition for discerning collectors and designers alike.
