About the Item
This extremely rare Spanish Baroque cupboard is masterfully constructed in walnut and retains its original polychrome decoration, predominantly in rich red and green tones with faux-marble detailing. The visible sides are fully paneled, each composed of eight fielded panels, while the front features two full-height doors, each articulated with sixteen panels. Half are square fielded panels, contrasted by deeply carved, highly stylized Baroque floral motifs. Each door retains its four original wrought iron hinges, and the original locking system remains intact and fully functional with its key. The backboards and top boards are original, aside from a minor historical repair to a lower rail. Inside, a practical arrangement of shelves is revealed, alongside a central open compartment designed to house a crucifix, evidenced by the floor aperture and surviving iron retaining chain above.
