About the Item

This is a rare folk art solid oak Spanish cupboard from the Pyrenees mountains. This style of furniture is fabulous due to its bold primitive design, made in remote areas in the Pyrenees. This example is totally original, very heavy and has a stunning patina due to its dry un touched condition. The doors even have slight blackening from spending time near an open fire. The doors have lovely carved details and the twist stop is a great design. Inside there is a shelved interior and the top you can see open shelves with interesting carved shapes around the apertures. Crafted in the Pyrenees Mountains around 1840, this rare French Provincial food cupboard is an extraordinary example of rustic elegance with distinct Basque and Spanish influence. Made of richly aged pine with a warm, honeyed patina, the piece features a bold architectural silhouette and unique decorative details that reflect its regional heritage. The upper cabinet showcases beautifully latticed panels, designed to ventilate stored goods, framed by inset panels and secured with simple wrought iron hardware.
