About the Item

An exquisite Dutch cushion cabinet with two doors. This closet owes its name to the pillow-shaped reinforcements on the doors. This piece of furniture is made of the highest quality oak and is elaborately covered with geometric shapes. Everything in this cabinet oozes understated richness. This is the archetype of the Dutch cabinet. Made of oak, this cabinet adorned the homes of the rich bourgeoisie. A key form of Dutch furniture in the 17th century was the cabinet, a taller piece of furniture that had replaced medieval chests at ground level. Cabinets were essential furniture in most Dutch homes, as well as in the Dutch colonies. Since cabinets were generally used to store valuable items such as linens or cutlery, they were works of art in themselves, and here we see some of the most important styles of applied Dutch furniture. This cabinet is a very rare piece and among its kind is truly special. The wealth of wood used and its monumental size make this piece unique
