About the Item

Henry P. Glass for Richbilt Manufacturing Company Cylindra Cabinet with Wall-Mounted Hutch, 1966 Walnut plywood, solid walnut, glass, lacquered walnut This cabinet and hutch set was designed by Henry P. Glass for Richbilt Manufacturing in 1966 as part of his Cylindra series. The cabinet features two sliding tambour doors that conceal one interior shelf and one drawer. The hutch is wall-mounted and complements the cabinet with clean curved lines and minimal form, double groves for display platters. Dimensions: Cabinet: 30½ in H × 72 in W × 18 in D Hutch: 15⅝ in H × 65¼ in W × 10 in D Literature: Henry P. Glass Associates, studio catalog, pp. 91, 97 — illustrates works from the Cylindra series. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Recently lightly oiled. Minor surface scratches throughout consistent with age and use. Presents well. About the Designer: Henry P. Glass was a pioneering industrial designer best known for inventing the iconic “hairpin leg.” Trained as an architect, he brought engineering precision and environmental awareness to his work. Born in Vienna in 1911, Glass studied at the Technische Hochschule and began his career designing modern interiors. After emigrating to New York in 1938, he worked with Gilbert Rohde and Russel Wright. He later moved to Chicago, studied at the New Bauhaus, and opened his own studio in 1946.
