About the Item
This is an old Japanese cupboard.
It is thought to date to the Meiji period (1868-1912).
It features a unique black color that gradually changes over time.
It is a traditional Japanese house with a thatched roof, and has changed over time due to the soot from the hearth.
The texture, which cannot be reproduced with paint, is a value that can only be created over time, making it extremely valuable.
The handles are simple and rustic, with no metal fittings, and are simply carved into the wood. The color has rubbed off only in the areas where the hand touches the door when opening and closing, revealing the bare wood. The rubbing is exquisitely balanced, making this a wonderful, harmonious piece.
There are many cupboards left that have a history of being well-used by hand over a long period of time, but those that have a sense of design in the way they change over time are extremely rare.
The addition of these cupboards to a simple space creates a contrast, transforming it into a beautiful, tranquil space.
We recommend incorporating the beauty of wabi-sabi into your space.
