About the Item
Perhaps philosophically having more in common with a Renaissance schatzkammer or a Baroque English country house than anything designed in the 20th century this 'Knick Knack Tabernacle' by Rodney Alan Greenblat is a whimsical tour de force of form and color. Painted front, back, inside, outside and probably on the bottom (we didn't look) this cabinet is a visual confection of color and form. In the 1980s Rodney Alan Greenblat (b. 1960) was an prominent member of the East Village art scene which included his friends Kieth Haring and Kenny Scharf. In 1985 he exhibited in the Whitney Biennial. He went on to do commercial and video art in Japan before returning to the US where he continues to paint, illustrate children's books and make music.
