About the Item

Mid 19th century hand painted folk art cupboard circa 1856. Swedish floor standing cupboard with a hand painted date of 1856, but we believe the piece to be earlier.  Quite possibly a top section from a larger cabinet, or hung from a wall.  Clearly has been used as a floor standing unit for some time. Painted in reds and green with traces or blue, with hand painted date in faded gold.  Architectural cornice and base.  Single door with working lock and key, interior of 3 fixed shelves which now carry a rich used patina. Original paint and condition, with obvious surface marks and paint losses.
