About the Item

Yes, in fact that is a new leather desktop. Our team replaced the original Naugahyde surface with genuine black leather. The Drexel Profile walnut and pecan K70 Desk is both a tank and a show pony. Finished on all sides, you can proudly display in the middle of your room. The two-tier architectural design provides additional concealed storage and a top surface ideal for computer screens. Streamlined from top to bottom and minimally adorned with the distinct chrome pulls that make this line so memorable. The square, tapered legs are seamlessly incorporated into the cabinet using Scandinavian Modern design. There are no abrupt angles in Drexel Profile.  The subtle, graceful curves add a touch of elegance to an otherwise masculine look. Not only do you get ample storage and surfaces, but the bottom left cabinet is also a file drawer with all the original dividers in tact. Drexel Furniture's "Profile" line was designed by John van Koert and released in mid-1955. van Koert was already well-known at the time for designing Towle's "Contour" line of cutlery, as well as Drexel "Projection." He was also the director of "Design in Scandinavia," a traveling museum exhibition that went around the United States showcasing pieces from 1954-1957 and helped spark the US interest in Danish design. The new desk surface replaces the original Naugahyde with genuine black leather; contrasted against the warm walnut and pecan body, it delivers both luxury and tactile richness. The design has been restored on all exposed sides, allowing it to be placed freestanding in a room without compromise. Architectural in form, the two-tier layout offers elevated display surface above the main desktop, perfect for screens or books, while discreet storage and a file drawer with original dividers reside below. Iconic chrome pulls punctuate the front, and square tapered legs extend downward with clean integration into the cabinet form—no abrupt angles break its Scandinavian Modern spirit. Curved edges softly cushion the masculine lines, lending elegance without diluting strength. Craftsmanship and lineage matter: Drexel’s Profile line was introduced around mid-1955, designed by van Koert just as Scandinavian design was gaining momentum in the U.S. This desk preserves both original design integrity and restored freshness. This desk shines in interiors that value style with substance. It makes a striking centerpiece in a home office, study, or creative workspace; it pairs beautifully with mid-century chairs, brass accents or chrome lighting, and materials like leather and warm woods. Collectors and design lovers who look for provenance, designer pedigree, and refined restoration will see this piece as more than furniture—it is heritage, utility, and artistry combined.
