About the Item

19th Century English Regency Chinoiserie Library Table A substantial 19th century, English Regency, Chinoiserie partners library table with a great old tooled leather top. There are two drawers on each side having brass swan neck handles and escutcheons. Ornately embellished with hand painted decoration throughout. Having chinoiserie scenes depicting lakes with fishermen, boats, flying birds and flowers. Supported by simple turned tapering legs on brass shoes and castors. Chinoiserie is the European interpretation and imitation of Chinese and other East Asian artistic traditions. The aesthetic of Chinoiserie has been expressed in different ways depending on the region. Originally an oak library table with Chinoiserie added later circa 1910.
