Handsome Mid to Late 20th Century MC a.k.a. Mid-Century rather Campaign Style desk by Sligh Furniture composed of a dark oak frame, 7 drawers with brass hardware, a black faux leather desk top surface. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. You may think you’re sly… But I’m here to tell you… We know Sligh when we see it… and THIS folks, is SUPERB-LY Sligh!!! That’s a fact!! This is a GORGEOUS vintage desk by Sligh Furniture composed of a handsome straight, sturdy dark oak frame bearing a beautiful black faux leather desk top surface and a unique drawer set up below. At first glance, the desk appears to have seven drawers BUT… in fact, there are five drawers total. It has a larger narrow drawer in the center with a built-in carved pencil holder and a smaller drawer on each side of the center one. So, the large lower drawer on each side bears a front that appears to be two drawers… we are calling that look an “FDDF” or “faux double drawer front” … LOL… but when opened the large lower drawer has a deep, large (front to back) legal file storage space with a removeable wood divider in the center that when removed can be used to hold letter sized files side to side. Talk about ample versatile storage space for your office supplies, files, and other accessories!! It is a little mid-century modern in style and a little MC Campaign Style, but we think it will blend in beautifully with just about any décor style and the dark oak front and back are so lovely you can float it in any room! This is JUST the desk you’ve been wanting in your new home office, study, or maybe your den needs a fresh new look? This is the solution!!! Or throw caution to the wind and place it in your dressing room as your makeup vanity! In 1940, Charles R. Sligh Jr. and Bill Lowry purchased a Zeeland, Michigan plant and formed Sligh-Lowry Furniture Company. This was followed by the purchase of the Grand Rapids Chair Company in 1945. The Ply Curves subsidiary corporation of Sligh-Lowry was established in 1948. The Grand Rapids Chair Company offered a complete line of case goods. Desks and occasional pieces were manufactured in the Holland and Zeeland plants. In 1957, Charles R. Sligh Jr. accepted a paid position as Executive Vice President of the National Association of Manufacturers while remaining Chairman of the Board of the furniture company until 1988. Beginning in the early 1990's, Sligh focused on the home office furniture market. In 2002, Sligh entered the home entertainment furniture market. Sligh sold the clock business to Bulova Corporation in 2005 to concentrate on home office, home entertainment and living area wall units. Charles R. Sligh Jr. died in 1997 at the age of 91. Sligh product designers were finalists in The American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD) annual Pinnacle Awards every year since inception in 1996 and won first place in seven of the years from 1996 to 2010. Handsome Asian teak hand carved drop slant front desk with interior compartmentalized cubby storage in the style of George Zee and Co. of China. This amazing piece is in fabulous condition. Please see photos, circa mid-20th century. This phenomenal drop front desk is made with superior craftsmanship and materials and is in exceptional original condition. Comprised of teak that has been carved on the drop front and the drawer faces with an incredible plum blossom and bird motif. The drop front is slanted above three rows of drawers. The top row having two drawers and the lower two a single full width drawer. All with recessed carved handles. Inside the drop front, besides the work surface, there is a removable cubby compartmentalized storage including a small drawer. This is made in the style of renowned Chinese furniture maker George Zee and Co. who made high quality teak and camphor wood furniture...
