About the Item

A Charming And Very Good Quality Early 18th Century Queen Anne Period Walnut Bureau, Or Writing Desk, Having Superbly Figured Top And Flap, With Featherbanded Decoration, Enclosing Attractive Fitted Interior Featuring Pigeon Holes, Drawers, Leather Writing Surface And Sliding Cover To Well With Two Secret Drawers, Over Two Short And Two Long Drawers With Replacement Brass Handles, Flanked By Well Figured Ends With Crossbanded Decoration, Raised On Replacement Turned Bun Feet. This is a great example of a Queen Anne Walnut Burea, constructed using very attractive and well figured walnut veneers which have been further enhanced using featherbanded decoration. It also retains a good rich colour and surface and has certainly never been stripped and repolished or anything like that over the years. It has very clearly been much loved and cherished throughout over 300 years of life and is certainly something which will continue to be cherished for many years to come. The brass handles are replacements, but very much of the design it would originally have featured and therefore they sit very well on it. It also has replacement turned bun feet, again they sit well and are of the exact style which would originally have been found on the piece. A piece which would suit a wide variety of spaces around the home or office and remains in quite excellent condition despite three centuries of heavy use. In fact it is very much as fit for purpose as the day which it was made. As with all of the items which we offer for sale this 18th century walnut bureau has been attended to by our expert restorers and naturally waxed using traditional methods to ensure it is ready to be placed straight into position and use at the home of its eventual lucky owner. In general kneehole deeks are regarded as a smaller, more compact version of the more typically found pedestal desk, with some form of an arrangement of drawers around a central set recessed cupboard being the typically found form. There are of course various different designs to be found along the same theme, but as a general rule that is the form you will usually find in a georgian kneehole desk...
