About the Item
Quite possibly one of the finest English BENCH MADE (hand made on a cabinetmaker's "bench") reproduction Partner's Desks made today. This desk and others that we make are made to our specifications using the finest reclaimed old or antique timbers and veneers. This desk in particular is made from highly figured burr (or burl) elm. The leather is English hide which has been hand tooled (embossed) and gilded in a black color. The front of the desk is traditionally fitted with three drawers across the top above three short drawers to the left side and one short drawer above a "faux" double drawer accommodating a legal size file drawer. The top center drawer has a fall-front for keyboards. The rear or back side of the desk is similarly fitted with three drawers across the top and each pedestal, left and right side, have a faux three drawer cupboard which opens to reveal a removable shelf.
The desk is constructed like an original late 18th century partner's desk with the top sitting upon blocks attached to the two side pedestals for ease of transport.
These desks are made for us one at a time and we typically only get one of each during each buying trip to the UK (semi-annually), so they can be made to order in either the 61" x 37" size or in a larger 67" x 37" size priced accordingly. Currently, the desk shown is 61" x 37" . We also have one in highly figured inlaid crotch mahogany with a saddle tan leather which is priced accordingly.
