About the Item

An icon of American Modernism, this conference table designed by Florence Knoll for Knoll International epitomizes her vision of furniture as architectural extension. With its gracefully curved boat-shape top crafted from richly grained walnut and supported by sleek chromed steel legs, the piece blends formality and subtle fluidity—allowing light to play over its surface while facilitating effortless social engagement across its length. Florence Knoll, an architect-turned-designer, brought the rigorous clarity of the Bauhaus and the humanized comforts of modernism to Knoll’s furniture design. Her boat-shape table was conceived to facilitate open, egalitarian gatherings—reflecting her belief that furniture should define space with grace and humanity. Awards such as MoMA’s Good Design recognition and the AIA Gold Medal underscore the enduring influence of her work on the language of interiors. Crafted in the 1960s as part of Knoll’s landmark Model 580 series, this table remains structurally robust. Its chromed frame keeps a refined profile, while the walnut top has been carefully polished to reveal and preserve its natural warmth—any signs of age adding character without compromising integrity. We purchased this massive conference table from the original owner with several other Knoll pieces. Designed by Florence Knoll for Knoll International circa 1960's. This is one of the biggest tables we've ever offered. The table has a Danish style "bow" with flared sides that reach a 45" width in the center. Easily accommodate 10-12 people. This bowed boat colossus was designed for serious entertaining and although was most likely used as a dining table, this could possibly be the most baller desk or conference table ever created.
