About the Item

An elegant French 19th century Louis XV st. ebonized Fruitwood and ormolu desk. The Bureau Plat is raised by slender cabriole legs with pierced ormolu sabots decorated with acanthus leaves, a front cartouche and above with pierced ormolu mounts of foliate scrolls amidst acanthus leaves. The scalloped shaped apron displays two drawers with ormolu key hole escutcheons and foliate decorated C scrolled ormolu handles. The opposite side is decorated with the same mounts, with the sides having an arbalest shape with a central pierced ormolu reserve. The top has its original brown fitted leather writing surface surrounded be an ebonized Fruitwood border and giltwood bullnose gallery.
